Croutons in the Air Fryer
This had honestly been one of my favorite recipes lately, kinda hilarious right!?
These beauties come out of the air fryer and my family hovers, just trying to get a handful of them to munch on before we even have a chance to use them!
I mean though if you think about it you really can’t go wrong with bread and olive oil right?!
These Air Fryer Croutons are so easy you probably won’t ever buy store bought ones again after you learn how to make them!
You really only need bread, oil, salt, and an air fryer. But if you wanted to go with a flavored crouton that is totally possible!
Equipment
Let’s talk air fryers! These days there are so many on the market and they now come in all different shapes and sizes.
I have the Ninja® Air Fryer Max XL and that is what I use for all recipe testing.
My air fryer has a circular basket and high walls, make it really easy to toss the items.
If your air fryer is shaped a little different or more like an oven with a tray you will still need to toss them but a spatula to flip everything might be more useful.
I will also know my air fryer is 5.5 quart so I have no problem holding 4-5 cups of bread crumbs, so make sure you scale your recipe if you have a smaller air fryer. (With this recipe you can really scale it to as much or as little as you want, just note to watch the time it might take less or more time.)
Ingredients
- Bread – Whatever kind you like! You will want to cut it into about 1 inch pieces
- Olive Oil – If need be you can sub this for other oils, you could also use butter
- Salt – And of course salt, I recommend a kosher or sea salt for this recipe

pro tip
Make these croutons your own by adding flavors! Add 1 teaspoon parsley, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt to the olive oil, stir together well before adding to the bread. You can also use seasoning mix (Hello Ranch Seasoning would be soooo good!) or even just a dash of garlic powder to season the croutons.
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 360º F.
In a mixing bowl mix together the cubed bread with the olive oil until it is well coated. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
Transfer the bread to the air fryer. Cook 8 to 9 minutes tossing every 3-4 minutes until crunchy and golden brown. Serve immediately or let cool completely before storing.
tips, tricks and questions
Stale bread works perfect for croutons! Just make sure it hasn’t gotten moldy!
You can use any kind of bread for these! White, Sourdough, Wheat all work!
How do you store air fryer croutons?
To store the croutons keep in an air tight container or zip-top bag at room temperature, do not refrigerate it will cause them to get soggy. Make sure they are also cooled down all the way as well, trying to store still warm croutons will cause them to get soggy in an air tight container.
How long do homemade croutons last?
These Air Fryer Croutons should keep if stored properly on the countertop about 5 days.
