Fig and Goat Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels
Whether you’re hosting a small gathering or a large party these irresistible treats are bound to impress.
What I would consider the perfect appetizer, these pinwheels are a 3 ingredient appetizer, available to make ahead, and the perfect balance between sweet and savory.
There’s something magical about puff pastry – its versatility knows no bounds. With its ability to effortlessly create layers of flaky, buttery goodness, puff pastry transforms even the simplest ingredients into culinary masterpieces.
After the popularity of my Pesto Puff Pastry Pinwheels I felt drawn to make another version. Fig and Goat Cheese Pinwheels was the answer. This version has a little sweetness of the figs, a little savoriness from the goat cheese, and also so easy to make.
Pro Tip:Freeze/Make Ahead
To make ahead the best thing to do is freeze these after they are fully cooked. Make the pinwheels, once fully cooled transfer to a freezer ziplock bag. Be gentle not to crush them (12 fit best in a gallon bag). If possible use a straw to suck out any extra air in the bag to prevent freezer burn. Transfer to the freezer. Keeps in the freezer about 3 months. To reheat preheat oven to 400º F. Line a baking sheet with the frozen pesto pinwheels and transfer to the oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until the pinwheels are hot.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry – Unless you are super talented and have the time you will want to use store-bought puff pastry. You will want to thaw this before you make the recipe. To thaw the puff pastry take out of the box and outer wrapper, let sit at room temperature for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Fig Preserves – Or Fig Jam. We are skipping the fresh figs for this recipe, as delicious as they are the short fig season just makes it easier to use fig preserves. You can use any leftovers for a charcuterie board! (And although I haven’t tried it I think you could try using other kids of fruit jam to switch it up.)
- Goat Cheese – Also known as chèvre. Goat cheese usually comes in a log so you will have to use your fingers to crumble goat cheese. I always find that goat cheese can come in some pretty fun flavors, you can use plain or any flavor you think would taste good. I did try this recipe with honey flavored goat cheese and it was delicious. If you are looking for a substitute you could try using cream cheese instead since the have similar consistency.

Instructions
Begin by preheating your oven to 400º F and lining two sheet pans with parchment paper.
Lay out the thawed sheet of puff pastry sheets on a clean surface.
Spread 1/4 cup of fig preserves evenly on each puff pastry sheet, leaving a small border around the edges.
Crumble and sprinkle half of the goat cheese over the fig preserves on each pastry sheet.
Roll up each pastry sheet into a tight log, starting from one end to the other. Ensure the seam side is facing down.
Place seam-side down the rolled-up pastry logs on a plate and refrigerate for 20 minutes to firm up.
Once chilled, remove the pastry logs from the refrigerator and place them seam side down on a cutting board.
Using a serrated knife, slice each log into 12 even pinwheels, totaling 24.
Arrange the pinwheels on the prepared sheet pans, leaving some space between each one.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the pinwheels are golden brown and puffed up.
