Hot Ham and Cheese Croissant Sandwiches
These have been a lifesaver at our house the past year since my son started travel baseball. These sandwiches are so speedy to make and the whole family loves them, the perfect sports mom dinner. Luckily because they are so easy they also are perfect for a breakfast, brunch, or lunch! That’s right these croissant sandwiches do it all and with melty cheese and buttery croissants paired with salty ham it is a winning combo.
The simple assembly and quick bake time make them perfect for days when you’re short on time but want something warm and satisfying. Plus, the recipe is easily customizable: you can adjust the amount of mustard to suit individual tastes or switch out the cheese based on family preferences. Getting the kids involved in assembling the sandwiches makes this meal even more fun; they can help with layering the ham and cheese or spreading the sauce. Whether you’re making a few or feeding a crowd, these croissants are a hit for all ages.

Ingredients
- Large Croissants – Go for the fluffiest ones you can find; they’re perfect for holding all the layers. If all you can find at your grocery stores are mini croissants (it happens) thats okay just break up the cheese and ham between the smaller size croissants and bake for a slightly shorter amount of time.
- Deli Ham – Pre-sliced ham is convenient, but feel free to use your favorite variety. I prefer a savory ham like black forest ham or smokey ham but feel free to use honey ham or whichever deli ham your family prefers. You can also use leftover ham, perfect if you make my Easy Crockpot Ham with Pineapple and Cherries.
- Muenster Cheese – Muenster’s mild flavor and meltability make it ideal, though Swiss or cheddar are great options too.
- Mayonnaise – This adds creaminess to the spread.
- Dijon Mustard – Adds a slight tang; feel free to adjust the amount based on taste. You can also use other types of mustard, whole grain mustard or honey mustard sauce would also work.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Prepare the Spread: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. Set aside.
Assemble the Sandwiches: Cut each croissant in half. Place layers of ham over the bottom half of each croissant, followed by a slice of Muenster cheese.
Add the Spread: Spread a layer of the mayo-mustard mixture on the inside of the top half of each croissant and place the top half on the sandwich.
Bake: Arrange the croissants on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the croissants are golden and toasted to your liking.
Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and serve warm. These croissants are best enjoyed fresh and melty!
tips, tricks and questions
Can I make these croissants ahead of time?
Assemble the croissants ahead of time, cover them tightly, and refrigerate. When you’re ready to bake, simply pop them in the oven.
Can I freeze these croissants?
If you have leftovers, you can freeze them, but keep in mind that the croissants may lose some of their fluffy texture. To reheat, it’s best to use the oven rather than a microwave for a more consistent texture. These also can just be refrigerated in an airtight container overnight to be reheat the next day as well.
What other spreads can I use?
For a twist on flavor, try substituting the mayo-mustard spread with honey mustard, pesto, or even a bit of cranberry sauce for a sweet-savory mix.
Can I use other types of meat?
Absolutely! Turkey or roast beef are great options if you want to switch things up or are feeding a crowd with varied tastes.
Can I use other types of cheese?
Yes, honestly you can use really and type of sliced cheese you like. Try baby swiss cheese, cheddar, pepper jack, or gruyere cheese.
On the Move:
Do you have a game or practice to get to? After baking wrap the sandwich in aluminum foil it is a great way to keep them warm and take them on the go. Don’t forget to grab some fresh fruit and veggies to take with you to complete the meal!

Notes
*Depending on your kids you might want to use less of the dijon mustard, I use dijon plenty in my cooking but for this recipe they asked for less of the mustard flavor, I kept it as written in the recipe though because my husband and I think the amount of dijon it just right. Adjust accordingly.
Feel free to use a different type of cheese like swiss or cheddar.
