Refreshing Iced Coffee Lemonade

July 21, 2016 by Lauren Schmidt Leave a Comment

A unique blend of cold brew coffee and lemonade over ice results in a refreshing & sweet summer coffee drink! Coffee Lemonade or also referred to as a Laura Palmer for it’s similarity to an Arnold Palmer is a fun cold beverage you have to try!

Iced Coffee Lemonade

This flavor combo might have you excited, it might not. It seems like a weird combination at first, coffee and lemonade really??

But just think about an Arnold Palmer, something is so right about the mixture of tart iced tea and sweet lemonade, and a Coffee Lemonade isn’t too far from that.

A good cold brew coffee has bold notes, floral yet earthy like a good glass of iced tea, so mixing it with a little lemonade brings out those floral notes with just a little added sweetness!

To me it is absolute perfection. During the summer a large glass of Iced Coffee Lemonade finds it way to my desk to accompany me through my work.

My husband on the other hand does not care for them, in Coffee Lemonade’s defense he also isn’t a huge Arnold Palmer guy. So I guess the point of what I am trying to make is, this drink my not be everyones cup of tea coffee 😉

Where did the idea for Coffee Lemonade start?

I am not sure.

For a while the drink was marketed by Starbucks, in their version they also add a splash of soda water into the drink (not a bad idea).

This article claims that it might have originated in Sweden, being called Kaffelemonad.

Some would probably say it has Russian origins where people actually do put lemon slices in their coffee.

And then most people will say it started in Brooklyn, New York at a small coffee stand.

Wherever it is originally from people seem to really enjoy it!

What does Coffee Lemonade taste like?

As discussed above it is going to have similar notes to an Arnold Palmer!

How to make Coffee Lemonade

Start by getting your hands on some good cold brew, I recommend you check out my post on How to make Cold Brew Coffee.

Once you brew your coffee you are ready to start.

Get yourself some Lemonade.

And then you mix them and add some ice!

It is seriously that easy. I have found the best ratio to be 1/3 lemonade to 2/3 coffee as you will see in the full recipe card below.

Now a lot of recipes will call for lemon juice and simple syrup to make your own lemonade but as a busy mother I do not have time for that, so I buy a nice simple and ‘clean’ lemonade from the store for my drink.

If you like the idea of a bubbly drink you can add a splash of tonic water or soda water to the mix. Also feel free to add some slices of lemon if you feel compelled!
