Easy White Pizza Recipe
This is an easy white pizza recipe. Using just a handful of simple ingredients like fresh garlic, olive oil, and different kinds of cheese this is one of the simplest homemade pizzas to make. The best way to get everyone excited for pizza night!
White pizza, also known as “pizza bianca,” is made without tomato sauce. Instead, it features a base of olive oil, garlic, and various cheeses. It’s a delicious pizza that is a great option when you are over the red sauce.
This version of white sauce pizza doesn’t really have sauce, there are types of white pizza were one might use a sauce similar to an alfredo sauce as the topping. This one keeps it more simple and lots of garlic and olive oil to make an “olive oil sauce”. If you are ready to make this but want a little more in depth info on actually making a pizza at home check out my post How to Make Homemade Pizza.
Ingredients
- Cornmeal – This is simply to keep the pizza from sticking to the pizza stone or tray, you don’t have to measure this exactly just use as needed.
- Pizza Dough – For a 10-12 inch pizza (half of this pizza dough recipe). If you prepared the dough ahead of time let your pizza dough come to room temperature before rolling to make it easier to handle.
- Garlic – Fresh is a must. Grate it just before you are about to add it to the oil.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil – The taste of the oil matters because there are so few ingredients in this recipe so pick an olive oil with a good light taste.
- Low-Moisture Mozzarella Cheese – Low-moisture mozzarella works best for this recipe. This cheese usually comes in a square block, half the block usually works for one pizza. This cheese is a little hard to grate, but it melts incredibly well. You can use fresh mozzarella but keep in mind this might be a little watery on your pizza.
- Ricotta Cheese – I use whole milk ricotta but you could use a low-fat if you wanted.
- Italian Seasoning – I like my Homemade Italian Seasoning, a store bought version you love work just as well.
Instructions
Preheat the Oven: If you’re using a pizza stone, place it on the middle rack of your oven and preheat the oven to 450ºF.
Prepare the Garlic Oil: In a small bowl, mix the grated garlic with the olive oil and set it aside to let the flavors meld.
Roll Out the Dough or Hand Toss: On a floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a large circle. If the dough becomes sticky, sprinkle a little more flour.
Prepare the Pizza Peel: Sprinkle half the cornmeal onto the pizza peel. Lay the dough on top and give it a little shake to ensure it’s not sticking. Set the remaining cornmeal aside for the pizza stone.
Assemble the Pizza:
Using the back of a spoon, spread the garlic olive oil evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella in an even layer over the garlic oil.
Dollop spoonfuls of ricotta cheese across the pizza.
Sprinkle Italian seasoning over the top for added flavor.
Bake the Pizza: Sprinkle the reserved cornmeal onto the hot pizza stone. Carefully slide the pizza from the peel onto the stone. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
Cool and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for at least one minute before slicing. Serve immediately and enjoy!
tips, tricks and questions
Can I use store-bought pizza dough?
Absolutely! Store-bought dough works well if you’re short on time. Look for fresh or frozen options at your local grocery store.
How do I reheat leftovers?
Reheat leftover slices in a 400ºF oven for 10-15 minutes. Another good way is on a stovetop skillet to restore the crispness of the crust, add one or two slices to a skillet, cover, and heat over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes then add 2-3 teaspoons of water into the skillet. Cover quickly and let the steam melt the cheese. Continue to cook for 3 -5 minutes until the pizza is cooked.
What other cheeses work for white pizza?
Feel free to add Parmesan, fontina, or goat cheese to mix and match with the mozzarella and ricotta.
Can I make this gluten-free?
Yes, just substitute the pizza dough with a gluten-free version.
No Pizza Stone?
Use a preheated baking sheet or a pizza pan as an alternative.
Variations
Besides just adding parmesan cheese and a sprinkling of red pepper flakes, try adding a few toppings like fresh tomatoes, caramelized onions, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, sautéed spinach, sliced mushrooms, or some herbs after cooking like fresh basil, fresh rosemary, or parsley. My kids also like to dip this in Marinara Sauce sort of like cheesy bread.

White Pizza
This white pizza recipe is a simple yet sophisticated twist on traditional pizza. Its creamy cheeses and garlicky base make it a delicious option for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons cornmeal
- 1 pizza dough for 10-12 inch pizza (half of this pizza dough recipe)
- 2 cloves garlic, grated
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup low moisture mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1-2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
Instructions
- If using a pizza stone add it to the middle rack of the oven to heat up. Preheat oven to 450ºF.
- Add the grated garlic to the olive oil, mix well and set aside.
- On a floured surface stretch/roll out the pizza dough into a large circle. If dough starts to get a little sticky sprinkle more flour. If you are just starting out it might be easiest to use a rolling pin to assist you. If you are looking to hand toss the pizza a good trick to start is to make fists with both of your hands, keep both of your hands on the outer edge of the dough and gently pull your fists apart a few inches and then shimmy them over and back together, inching around the dough until a circle takes shape. Another option is on a well floured surface you can also gently use your fingers pulling the dough into place.
- Once crust is formed sprinkle about half the cornmeal onto the pizza peel. The other half will go on the pizza stone right before you put the pizza on it.
- Lay the dough overtop the corn meal on the pizza peel. I like to give the peel a little shake to make sure the pizza isn't sticking and will slide off when the time comes.
- Using the back of a spoon spread the garlic olive oil evenly over the center of the pizza, leaving just a little crust space.
- Add the mozzarella cheese in a single layer covering the olive oil.
- Use a spoon to dollop spoonfuls of the ricotta spaced throughout the top of the mozzarella cheese. Then sprinkle the Italian seasoning overtop the pizza.
- Add the cornmeal to the pizza stone. With much caution gently shake the pizza off of the pizza peel and onto the pizza stone.
- Cook 12 to 15 minutes until the cheese on the pizza is melted and starting to turn golden brown. Carefully remove from oven. Transfer to a cutting board, let rest for at least a minute then cut it and enjoy!
